The Problem: Manual Discipline vs. Automatic Protection

Every trader knows that risk management is the foundation of market survival. But maintaining discipline under pressure—when markets move fast, when losses pile up, or when adrenaline spikes—is nearly impossible without a second watchdog. Many traders fund accounts, break prop firm rules without realizing it, and lose access.

That's why Guardian exists—Onyx's integrated risk manager. It's not an advisor; it's an automatic blocker that enforces your limits in real time.

What Is Guardian and How Does It Work?

Guardian is the risk control engine of Onyx. It runs inside the connector (EA in MetaTrader, cBot in cTrader) and monitors two critical limits 24/7:

  • Daily loss limit: maximum money you can lose in one calendar day. Hit it, and Guardian blocks new entries.
  • Total loss limit: cumulative loss since account or challenge start. Reach the cap, and a permanent block activates.

When a trade is about to cross these limits, Guardian stops it before it opens. No negotiation, no exceptions: pure math.

Profit Protection and Locking

Guardian also protects your gains. You can configure:

  • Trailing drawdown: if you profit and then lose part of it, Guardian caps how much you can give back from your account peak.
  • Profit locking: once you hit a profit target, you can auto-close trades or block new entries to lock in those gains.

This is the difference between a disciplined trader and one who surrenders winnings: protecting not just the initial capital, but the profits you've earned.

"My Challenge": Your Real-Time Scoreboard

If you're on a challenge or funded account, "My Challenge" is your live dashboard. It shows:

  • Profit target and remaining days.
  • Current daily loss vs. limit.
  • Total loss vs. cumulative cap.
  • Consistency level or rule you're about to break.

It's like a vital signs monitor: it warns you before the crisis. Integrated with Reglas de las prop firms explicadas: drawdown, daily loss y consistencia, you see at a glance if you're at risk.

Lot Size and Risk Calculator

Before opening a trade, you need to know how much you can risk without breaking limits. Onyx includes a built-in position size calculator that:

  • Calculates maximum lot size based on your risk per trade.
  • Automatically respects daily loss and total drawdown caps.
  • Prevents you from opening a "too big" position that triggers limits.

It's an extra prevention layer: before Guardian blocks, you already know the safe trade size.

Preventive Alerts: Warning Before High-Impact News

Guardian also watches the economic calendar. When configured, it alerts you before high-impact news (employment reports, central bank decisions, etc.) so you don't open trades seconds before extreme volatility.

It's protection against market noise: cooler decisions, fewer surprises.

How to Configure Guardian on Your Account

1. Create your Onyx account and connect your platform (MetaTrader or cTrader). 2. From "Accounts" → "Configure," set:

  • Daily loss limit.
  • Total loss limit.
  • Trailing drawdown (optional).
  • Profit target.
  • 3. The connector downloads those limits and begins live monitoring. 4. Every trade you open automatically respects those parameters.

No magic: it's configuration + local execution in your terminal. Onyx never has your password or access to money movements; it only enforces the rules you define.

Responsibility Remains Yours

Guardian automates discipline, but it doesn't replace smart trading. Respecting your prop firm's limits is your responsibility: Guardian is the guardian, not the trader. Cómo pasar el reto de una prop firm sin quemar la cuenta requires strategy, psychology, and consistency—not just limits.

But having an automatic blocker means that even in the worst moments—when stress is highest—your capital is protected.

What happens if I try to open a trade when I've already hit my daily limit?
Guardian blocks the entry automatically. The order doesn't execute; you see a rejection message in your terminal. You must wait until the next day to trade again (or manually lower the limit).
Does Guardian protect against market slippage or only against my limits?
Guardian only enforces your configured limits (daily loss, total drawdown). It doesn't protect against gaps or liquidations: using smart stop losses on every trade is your job.
Can I change limits mid-day?
Yes, from "Accounts" in Onyx. But remember: if you've already lost money, lowering the limit doesn't bring it back; it only prevents future losses.
Does Guardian work on all platforms?
Yes. On MetaTrader (MT4 and MT5) as an Expert Advisor, on cTrader as a cBot, and coming soon to MatchTrader via API. Any broker or prop firm with those platforms works.
